With Gry Maritha, the islands primary freight ship in dry dock for routine work Scillonian found herself with a busy start to the season. A full cargo of freight was loaded causing a slight delay to sailing time.
With the cargo aboard Capt Crawford sounded 3 short blasts and the ship departed the Lighthouse Pier taking 132 passengers across Mounts Bay and onward to Scilly.
With an easterly blowing, the ship rocked and rolled her way to Scilly rather than the usual pitching. Travelling with the wind made for comfortable conditions for those on deck.
As usual the ship was smartly turned out. A credit to the crew past, and present who keep her well maintained.
A first look at St Mary's as the ship takes the 'low water' passage in.
The Isles of Scilly Harbour Master's launch Pegasus off St Mary's. A fine product of a welsh boat yard!
At Hugh Town the ships crew and shoreside staff get to work unloading/loading cargo for the return sailing.
With the season just underway not every trip boat was in service. Sea King, one of the older boats in the final stages of her winter refit.
Joining Gry Maritha in Penzance Dry Dock was the Lyonesse Lady, the inter Island freight vessel. This left the much smaller Swift Lady in charge of keeping the off islands connected.
